Directions: Remove pets from the habitat while setting up the environment. Use 1 to 2 lbs of gravel for every gallon of water. In a clean bucket, rinse the terrarium substrate thoroughly with clear water before using. Never use soap or detergent. Place gravel in the habitat to achieve desired thickness (minimum 2 inches). To fill habitat, place a saucer on the gravel and pour tap water onto the saucer. This will prevent the water from disturbing the substrate. Run all filters and pumps for 20 minutes before introducing turtle(s) and living plants into the environment. Some cloudiness may persist, so allow up to 24 hours for the water to clear.
Care Instructions: Once your habitat is established, do not wash the gravel. Use a gravel vacuum once a month, or as needed, to remove loose debris. The gravel bed will become a home for beneficial bacteria, which keeps your habitat healthy. Gravel may contain minerals that affect the water pH. Monitor your water pH and adjust it as necessary to avoid sudden pH changes. Refer to a pet-care guide to determine the proper water pH for your pet.
